New England Crab Company is, and has always been extremely committed to sourcing sustainable seafood. Prior to the development and implementation  of the Fishery Management Plan for Jonah Crab, New England Crab Company led the way by requiring that all of the fishermen selling us crabs were not only properly licensed and fishing in only approved waters but also adhering to minimum size limits and a strict "no females" policy.

This framework became the model that was incorporated into the Jonah Crab Fishery Management Plan, which was fully implemented on June 1, 2016. The link below will provide you access to the complete plan. Please contact us with any questions about sustainability that you may have.

As a result of this plan implementation, Monterrey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch, an important industry watchdog and sustainability rating service, has categorized Jonah Crab as a "Good Alternative" for the seafood industry and its end customers.
